dopt-A-Leader
is a one year Strategic Prayer Initiative (SPI) developed
by Shirley Dobson and the National
Day of Prayer. It helps Christians fulfill their Biblical
mandate to pray for those in authority (1 Timothy 2: 1-2)
and offers churches and prayer groups an opportunity to
focus prayer on specific elected officials or anyone who
is in authority at the local, county, state, federal or
global level.
While
Adopt-A-Leader is an excellent tool for families to incorporate
into family devotions time, it has magnified power when implemented
on a large scale by churches as a congregational project.
Local churches in our area who have run Adopt-A-Leader programs
include Olive Branch Community Church (Pastor Ike Riddle),
Calvary Church (Pastor Michael Lantz), and New Hope Family
Worship Center (Pastor Dave Tanner and Ken Peters). Prayers
were offered for specific government leaders and most recently
for members of the Corona-Norco School District. A church
in Temecula will be launching their Adopt-A-Leader program
in January, 2006.

We
have a complete packet of materials already prepared to help
you promote an Adopt-A-Leader program at your church. Please
contact us at 951-734-5001 to help you establish the Adopt-A-Leader
program as a regular part of your church's outreach activities.
These materials include instructions, wall charts, contact
cards, etc.
A
key element of Adopt-A-Leader are the tools available
from National Day of Prayer in the form of their unique
"Prayer
Kit." This Prayer
Kit, designed by Shirley Dobson for the National
Day of Prayer, contains a Prayer Journal, an initial announcement
card to be sent to the "Leader" that has been
adopted, 12 additional cards and envelopes to be sent
to the Leader once each month as a reminder that they
are being prayed for and to solicit prayer requests, etc.,
a refrigerator magnet to remind the sponsor to pray and
12 calendar stickers to remind the sponsor to send a card
once each month.
